FREEZER ARRIVES ON THE MOUNTAIN

I have been waiting to write a post on the most outrageous thing we have seen transported on a motorbike - this seems a popular topic amongst Vietnam bloggers. The problem is that there is too much to choose from - how about an entire flower shop, a huge selection of mattresses or a truly enormous live pig stuffed into a metal basket?

All this got resolved yesterday when Zizi's husband appeared with a gigantic box on his bike. I thought it was a washing machine, but it turned out to be a chest freezer.

I have no idea how he made it up the hill, but he did. To truly appreciate the acrobatics involved, I need to tell you that the only way up here is a 2-3 foot wide concrete path about 150 meters uphill and it is steep. To boot, the path is constantly full of motorbikes, people, water buffalo, dogs and other moving beings.

The road up the mountain - and this is from a level spot.

And here is the box! Can you see the bike underneath?

The freezer almost did not fit through the door, but once we took it out of the box it just made it.

And here it is - with its happy owners.

So next time you buy a freezer why not just ask a Vietnamese friend to bring it home for you?
