THE OVERNIGHT TRAIN

We used the overnight train to travel from Hanoi to Lao Cai. I am adding a map here so you can see how super north we were - within a breath of the Chinese border.

We loved the trains and they made a comfortable ride back and forth. Lili was excited about the bunk beds and had a good sleep both ways.

A map of popular tourist destinations in Vietnam. We flew to Hanoi, then went to Cat Ba Island for Ha Long Bay. From Hanoi we took the train to Lao Cai and then bus to Sapa. For our last five days in Vietnam we are flying to Danang tomorrow.  We will not be visiting south Vietnam on this trip.

This is on the way north. The train was actually overbooked on the way up and we had five people in the cabin with four beds - but it all worked out.

Waking up upon arrival to Hanoi. Note the carabiner on our water bottle - used to hang it from a backpack.
