LANG CO BEACH - OHH...

As if the beach in Danang wasn't amazing enough we took a day trip to Lang Co beach towards Hue.

It is an amazingly beautiful beach that stretches miles and miles. And best of all it is popular with Vietnamese so not so much a tourist place.

We packed our swimsuits, snorkels, goggles and set off on a one hour drive with our lovely homestay host. The drive goes over a scenic mountain pass with super views - we think many of the Danang Bay tourist images are taken from the mountain.

One of the sandy bays between Danang and Lang Co. If you look carefully you can see the railway - a single track meandering a little bit up from the beach.  It goes all the way to Hanoi.

And here is the beach! No one there except us.   BUT bummer of bummers - swimming was forbidden that day.

An explanatory note might be in order here. In the last ten days there have been three typhoons in SE Asia (all doing the route Philippines, Vietnam, China). We have inadvertently played Cat and Mouse with the storms and always stayed one step ahead - honestly we have been extremely lucky. But this time the waves were getting so big that they called off swimming altogether. Super frustrating but we had to accept it.

Here a patient father trying to rationalize with a child full of tears. Nothing is Ok. The car ride was Stupid. It was Boring! And now this!! We can't SWIM! I want to swim! Boo boo boo hoo.

Stupid stupid beach.

So what to do? We could either go straight back or make the most of it where we were. Good learning opportunity to process disappointments. We decided to hang out a bit, enjoy the beauty of the place and then we went up from the beach to one of the Vietnamese resorts (where our car and driver were waiting) and paid to use their pool for half a day. It was great, and again no one else was there. We had the whole place to ourselves.

Swimming after all.

Swimming after all.

Not so bad...
