WE LOVE JIM THOMPSON HOUSE

Maybe it is because of growing up in Finland where we have a couple of totally awesome 'home-museums' - especially architects' homes - I really love the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok. So it was a great place to visit on our last day there.

Jim Thompson was an American architect who was based in Thailand for the OSS. Afterwards, he stayed in Thailand and started a Thai silk exporting business. He became extremely successful and built his home in Bangkok - which soon became a center for artist society social life.

After about 8 years, Jim Thompson disappeared on a trip to Malaysia without a trace, and was never seen again.

His house is now operated by a foundation as a home museum, and also has a restaurant, gift shop and an exhibit space.

The house is gorgeous - a tropical compound of small buildings grouped around a verdant courtyard by the Chao Phraya river.
