ART OF THE DAY

Today is the first Sunday of the month which in Paris means that the museums are free! (Well not all, but many are.) We decided to avoid the crowds and not go to the Louvre which proved out to be a great move. We walked to Marais and went to the Musee Picasso. Oh yeah!

This still life with fruit is by Henri Matisse, but it was in Pablo Picasso's private collection so we saw it at the Picasso museum. We talked about composition on seeing this piece - it is a bit unusual in that the entire bottom half of the image is not of the main thing (fruit). Maybe Matisse used this for extra emphasis...
